Course Description

This course introduces foundational concepts in electrical systems, specifically as they relate to battery electric and hybrid vehicles. Participants will first learn about safety, electrical current, circuits, magnetism, thermal and mechanical systems. This course will then introduce vehicle systems and energy storage, focusing on the key differences between internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs), electric vehicles (EVs), and hybrid vehicles (HEVs). Topics include power flow and efficiency, energy storage technologies, powertrain components, vehicle recognition features, total cost of ownership, end-of-life recycling, and the hazards associated with various energy storage systems. Finally, we'll delve into the key components and functions of electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids, and fuel cell vehicles, including high-voltage systems, charging standards, energy flows, and control systems.
